10th Anniversary

Our Somerset West School is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary tonight (28th Oct) at Simply Asia in Stellenbosch. The school’s first paishi (welcoming ceremony) was with 5 members and I am happy to say, 3 out of the 5 are still involved at the school or in the association.
I still remember that paishi as if it was yesterday. I was the 5th student. Being the first students there obviously were no seniors, which meant that your initiation sparring match was with your instructor; scary at the time, but memorable.
I have done a few martial arts before, but what was different for me from day 1 and why I am still loving it after 10 years, was the reality aspect. My teacher taught everything with a grounding in reality training. We weren’t just doing a sport or learning some beautiful forms. They all had real applications in life; be it for self defence or giving you a framework by which you can live your life by.
Kungfu was everything it should be; mind, body & spirit.
