Leslie Sifu: Piercing the Invisible Target

Piercing the Invisible Target
With one end of his bow
The archer pierces heaven
With the other, he penetrates the earth
Stretched between the two
The bowstring hurls the arrow
Into the heart of both the visible and invisible target

Who am I?
When I was a child I felt that God, or the universe, or life, held a great secret. I felt that if I could only break down the barrier behind which that secret was hidden, if I could have that secret whispered into my ear, then everything would be all right – I would know the truth.
Over the years, as I grew into adulthood, I had glimpses of the shadow of the truth – moments, mere split seconds of being fully, completely awake before slipping back down into semi-wakefulness, semi-life.
In the 1970′s I started studying Chinese Kung Fu and for many years now have earned my living as a teacher of Shaolinquan, Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Yongchunquan (Wing Chun), and the Shaolin system of Qigong.
Through my training the secret I had struggled to uncover became known to me.
I was the secret – I was the truth I sought.

Hi, Is this Sifu Leslie James Reed? If it is I was part of your kung fu club in the late 80′/early 90′s. The best few years of my life. Since moving to Durban I haven’t been able to find a club that matches the level of teaching I once had and I have realised that the combination of wing chun and wah lum outstanding. Schools here teach a diluted version of wing chun and it frustrates me. If you know of any good schools in Durban please let me know because I would like to send my children along. by the way I like the web site but it would be even better if you had a photo gallary.

Hello Royce Little. Yes this article was written by Sifu Leslie James Reed. Unfortunately for all of us, he passed away 3 years ago. He was an amazing teacher and I was fortunate to be taught by him during his last two years. We are still continuing his school and teachings.
I might have someone you can go to in your area. Will get back to you as soon as I have the details.
Wow, what a shock….I am sad to hear he passed away! Do you mind me asking how he died? It’s funny but you always seem to think that your sifu will be invincable. I’m not sure if there are any of the origional students there but I was there when the school was at the centre of town a couple of blocks up from the Golden Acre. I reached senior Todi level and remember training with a colourd guy named Wayne who was very good.
Cheers Royce
